TH SCOPE / TH LINK
TH LINK Ethernet
The version of TH LINK Ethernet can only be seen in TH SCOPE GUI on web browser.
- Open TH SCOPE GUI
- Select TH LINK in navigator
- Select button “i” on top
- FW version is shown in section TH LINK
TH LINK PC
- Open “Programs and Features” from control panel
- Select TH LINK
- Enlarge window until the comment is visible

The TH SCOPE itself does not have a password.
In the graphical user interface of the TH SCOPE software is always a TH LINK selected. In the login window you can use the appropriate TH LINK password.
The password of a hardware link is the serial number of the device.
The default password of the TH LINK PC is THLINK_Admin.
If TH LINK recognition or SNMP agent should be configured then the TH SCOPE configurator password is required. The TH SCOPE configurator password can only be entered in the configuration interface of the TH SCOPE. (http://localhost/THSCOPE/HTML5/Config)
To do this, select in the Windows Start menu All Programs Softing TH SCOPE and then click TH SCOPE configuration. Here you can enter in the login window the password and then click the "Login" button. The default password is THSCOPE_Admin.
In case of loss password the TH LINK device must be returned to Softing. For further information about this procedure please contact the sales department per mail: email@example.com
Softing will inform you about the costs and will reset the default password.
If you have not changed the password, then you can log in with the default password of the device, which can be found in the manual. In any cases please try to login with the default password before you return the device to Softing.

After successful installation start the utility. It automatically searches for all connected TH LINK devices in the network.
The following information will be determined:
- IP address
- Serial number of the device
- Hardware release
- Firmware release
Please note that network card and TH LINK device must be in the same subnet. Otherwise the TH LINK Search Tool doesn’t find the device!
In case the device will not be found then a Wireshark recording could further help to find out the IP Address of an Ethernet device.
Desired TH LINK will not be listed on the left side in the tree view of the TH SCOPE user interface. Accessing the device directly is possible using the IP address. The device can also be accessed successfully via “ping” from the command line.
Please make sure that the measurement on the TH LINK is started and the recognition has been completed with 100%.
Please enter the IP address of the device in the web browser and log in.
You can now start the measurement in the TH SCOPE tab by the "Start" button. After the measurement has started changes the button's label from "Start" to "Stop".
Now you can see in the status bar the current state of data initialization.
After the data initialization has been completed (100%), the TH LINK will be detected from the TH SCOPE Software.
The following error message appears when starting TH SCOPE: "There is no TH LINK accessible. Check the network connection and/or Try again later."
The connection to the TH LINK is possible if the IP address is entered directly in the browser.
- In TH SCOPE a TH LINK PC is selected, which is not yet configured (no network card is selected).
- The selected TH LINK PC is not connected to the network (IP address is 0).
- Broadcasts are blocked. TH SCOPE uses broadcasts to search for available TH LINK devices. If broadcasts are suppressed (router, firewall) TH SCOPE cannot find TH LINK devices.
- Open a browser window for TH LINK PC. For this type the following text in the address line: localhost/THLINK. If TH LINK is running on another PC, replace “localhost” by the name of this PC.
- Change to Settings, then to TH LINK
- Log in as administrator.
- Select a network adapter.
- Log out.
To 2. Connect the PC to the network.
If broadcasts are blocked in your network for security reasons TH SCOPE can also run in manual mode. In this mode the IP addresses of the TH LINK devices can be entered directly:
- Open a browser window for TH SCOPE Configurator. For this please enter the following text in the address line: localhost/THSCOPE/HTML5/Config.
- Log in as administrator
- In TH LINK detection change the search mode from Automatically to Manually.
- Enter the IP addresses of the TH LINK devices.
Generally Ethernet frames are only transmitted within the same subnet. Therefore TH SCOPE can only access stations directly if they belong to the same subnet. To transmit frames to other subnets routers or gateways can be used.
A Router can substitute the IP address, which must be then configured there (e. g. NAT).
A gateway can only be specified in TH LINK when both IP address areas are set to “Manually” in the Network configuration tab. Otherwise TH LINK tries to find the gateway via the DHCP Server.
Only one gateway can be specified, which must fit one of the two IP address areas.
A firmware update to version 7.0.x.x is only possible from firmware version 22.214.171.124 or 126.96.36.199. If an update from earlier versions is planned, firmware version 188.8.131.52 has to be installed as an intermediate step first.
In case the device has a smaller firmware version as 184.108.40.206 then it is necessary to install the intermediate version 220.127.116.11 as the first step.
The order of the firmware updates is as follows:
18.104.22.168 or 22.214.171.124 -> 126.96.36.199 -> 188.8.131.52 or 184.108.40.206 -> 220.127.116.11 or 18.104.22.168

The HTTP Error 503 message indicates that the Web server is temporarily unavailable. The issue is usually caused by the wrong IIS configuration (Microsoft Internet Information Services).
The required IIS configuration is automatically adjusted during the TH SCOPE installation if the user does not reject it. However, these settings cannot always be performed completely on the various operating systems (depending on the programs already installed).Therefore, check and if necessary correct the IIS settings described in the TH SCOPE Installation Manual (Chapter 6).
- manually uninstall TH SCOPE
- disable IIS settings Start -> Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features and click on Turn Windows features on or off. Disable all IIS settings.
- reinstall the latest version of the TH SCOPE, taking into account that the IIS configuration settings are automatically installed
The HTTP Error 503 can also occur after a Windows Update. In this case please delete the temporary files manually under:
and restart the computer.
enablement of the following ports:
- HTTP Protocol: 80 TCP
- Firmware update: 1100 TCP
- communication with each other: 1123, 1124, 2364 UDP
- communication with TH SCOPE via Multicast: 2364 UDP
- communication with TH SCOPE via Unicast: 1151, 2365 UDP
There must be no firewall between the TH LINK and the PROFINET and/or EtherNet/IP devices.
1) PC with TH SCOPE installation:
- Either enabling TH SCOPE.exe application or enabling of port HTTP 80 inbound and outbound
- Enabling of SNMP port 161 inbound or if another SNMP Agent uses this port already, then port 2367
- Enabling of IP 22.214.171.124 port 2364 UDP outbound
- Enabling of UDP ports 2365 outbound and 2366 inbound.
Note: The required firewall rules are installed during TH SCOPE installation.
2) Firewall between the PC, on which the TH SCOPE is installed and the TH LINK:
- Enabling of HTTP port 80
- Enabling of IP 126.96.36.199 port 2364 UDP
- Enabling of UDP ports 2365 and 2366
3) PC from which TH SCOPE is accessed:
- Enabling of port HTTP 80 outbound
4) Firewall between the PCs, on which the TH SCOPE is installed and the PC, from which TH SCOPE is accessed:
- Enabling of HTTP port 80
The license on the USB dongle is correctly recognized in the Softing License Manager V4. However, demo license will be displayed on the TH SCOPE software web interface.
The TH SCOPE software is installed as a service. Windows starts the services first and then the user interfaces, so the USB dongle must be plugged in before the Windows startup.
1) Reboot your PC after the USB dongle is plugged in.
2) Stop the TH SCOPE service via Services.msc, connect the USB dongle and restart the TH SCOPE service.
The TH SCOPE software will then recognize the dongle license and mark it as a base license on the web interface.
TH LINK Ethernet:
The log files will be saved directly in the device. The current log file name is THLink.log. If the size of the log file exceeds a certain value (normally 10 MB), the current file is copied to THLink_Bk.log.
Both files may be important.
The log file can be accessed in the web interface of the device. Open the trace file in a web browser as follows:

The Acceptance Report functionality is contained in TH SCOPE Webserver. The Exception log of the Webserver is very important in case having any problems with the report.

Default on a 64 bit system is:

The quality index strongly depends on the type of field device and, in particular, on the segment length. In the majority of cases, a quality index of 4000 is very good. However, bus communication may still work with much less.
The topology scan uses a maximum baud rate of 500 kbit/s, even if you have set higher baud rate. As a result, devices that do not support automatic baud rate detection and have been set to a higher baud rate will not be found in the topology scan. Some (mainly older) devices will perform the automatic baud rate detection only once after startup. Therefore, you may have to temporarily disconnect them from the power supply.

This is a common issue depending on the PC/notebook type and operating system. It occurs particularly when using USB hubs with external power supply. Please connect the PB-T3 directly to the PC/notebook.
The PROFIBUS Tester tools measure the cable lengths to the respective field devices and then list the devices according to these cable lengths.
To perform a topology scan, the PROFIBUS Tester must be connected to either the beginning or the end of a physical segment. Consequently, when measuring the cable lengths from the center of a segment, the sequence of devices determined by the PROFIBUS Tester will not correspond to the actual layout of the devices.
In addition, a topology scan will only deliver reliable results if the signal quality of all devices on the bus is very good. If faults have already led to reflections on the bus, the reflections can impair accurate length measurement by the PROFIBUS Tester.
The measurement tolerance for the topology scan is +/- 1 meter.
The use of repeaters creates separate physical segments. As a result, PROFIBUS Tester tools can only measure the distance to the repeater. In addition, as soon as a PROFIBUS Tester starts the topology scan, some diagnostic repeaters (e.g. Siemens repeaters) also transmit frames on the bus, which disturb the measurement. For this reason, repeaters should generally be disabled before running a topology scan.
My PROFIBUS Tester 4 has dropped down to the USB-socket and is malfunctioning. What next?
In spite of its weight PROFIBUS Tester 4 is quite robust and withstands mechanical stress to a considerable degree. Most of the testers being send to us for repair show a damaged USB-socket. We are already working on making the USB-socket more robust with respect to mechanical load. We kindly ask you for sending affected testers to us for repair if necessary. Please do not try to repair testers on your own. We recommend to screw tightly the device during testing. You may use a USB cable with angular B-plug which reduces the risk of damage to the USB-socket, should your PROFIBUS Tester 4 drop down accidentally.
In some situations a firmware update solves this issue.
Please download the latest version of the Diagnostics Suite V3.00 software inclusive firmware updates from our website. Install the software and update the firmware. After the firmware update was made, could be that the “IFLASH failed” message appears ones again. Please confirm it with the green button. Then the internal memory of the device will be formatted.
The PROFIBUS Tester is maintenance-free and does not need to be calibrated. The PROFIBUS Tester does not measure physical values which can be compared to a reference standard.
A calibration takes place during the automatic production tests of the PROFIBUS Tester device before the delivery.

The PROFIBUS Tester 3 was discontinued in 2011. Its functionality is fully included in the PROFIBUS Tester 4 (BC-600-PB, begin of sales in 2010) and in the PROFIBUS Tester 5 (start of sales in 2014).
The last PC software for the PROFIBUS Tester 3 was the version 1.70.
Version 3.x of PROFIBUS Diagnostics Suite doesn’t support the PROFIBUS Tester 3 any more because the newly added features like cable test are absent on the PROFIBUS Tester 3.

The new Firmware 1.02.00.00 of the BC-700-PB (delivered with the PROFIBUS Diagnostics Suite V3.20) contains an oscilloscope function for stand-alone operation. The waveform of the PROFIBUS signal can be seen now on the display of the BC-700-PB without connected PC. Therefore an examination of the waveforms is possible in a simple manner. The signal A-B is shown with a maximum sampling rate of 384 MHz and 8192 sample points. It can be triggered on addresses, signal level and faulty telegrams. Sections can be shown per zoom and shift function. The presentation is intended as a "Live View", saving the contents on the PC is not possible. For this purpose the oscilloscope function in the PROFIBUS Diagnostics Suite should be used.
The oscilloscope function in stand-alone mode is enabled via an additional license, which is bound to the serial number of the device. Therefore the serial number must be stated when ordering the license. Customers who already own the PA option should also state the key of the PA license in order to ensure that the PA function is included in the new key.
The oscilloscope function in the PROFIBUS Diagnostics Suite is still available without any additional license.
You have to configure a new IP address. Please click the link below to download the Search & Configure tool. After successful installation, start the Search & Configure tool. It will automatically find all available BC-502-PB devices on your network.
Click the Configure button or double-click a device to display detailed configuration data of the selected device. The dialog entries vary depending on the type of device. You can modify the settings of a device by entering new values in the enabled input boxes in the middle column. To download these changes into the device, please enter the correct password and click the Submit button.
The PROFIBUS Monitor is delivered with the following default network configuration:
- Monitor's IP address: 192.168.212.212
- Monitor's subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
- Login: config
- Password: config
If more than one Monitor with default configuration settings is connected to the LAN network, only one Monitor will be able to successfully connect to the network (firmware May 2009). All other Monitor devices or PROFIBUS Ethernet gateways that have been started later will prematurely stop booting because the assigned IP address is already in use on the network.
There is a workaround to add multiple devices with the same IP address to the network and then modify their network configurations from a PC on the same network. This is done using the Softing Search and Configure tool. First, unplug the network cables of the devices concerned. Then force a restart of each device by temporarily disconnecting it from the power supply. The devices will now complete the startup successfully and can be reconnected to the network.
The "Softing Search and Configure" tool will now also detect devices with the same IP address and further identify them by other attributes, such as the serial number or MAC address. You can then select each Monitor and change its IP address by clicking the Configure button.
PROFIBUS Diagnose Suite
While several devices can be simultaneously connected to the bus, you must choose one device at a time to run a measurement on the active bus with the PROFIBUS Diagnostics Suite. The measurement cannot be started using several devices simultaneously.
To use this functionality, you have to have installed the latest version of the PROFIBUS Diagnostics Suite.
To save the recorded frames to a CSV file, click the Print icon in the Frames view. After you select the range, a preview window appears. Click on the Save icon in the toolbar at the top of the preview window and choose 'CSV'. You can then specify a name and location for the file.
Using BC-450-PB you can test the protocol simultaneously in DP- and PA-segment. Before running a trend test you have to decide in which segment (DP or PA) you want to run a trend test. Running a trend test in DP- and PA-segment simultaneously will lead to wrong test results. Please run a trend test in the corresponding segments separately.
I am running a trend test using BC-502-PB. Why sometimes the GUI freezes when starting the trend test?
The graphical user interface of PB-DIAG-Suite freezes when starting a trend test, if the live list does not contain any stations.
This is a reported issue in version 2.10 of PB-DIAG-Suite. To prevent this issue, please run a station scan prior to the trend test.
This bug is fixed in the version 2.11.
When I am clearing the network status via context menu in project explorer, sometimes an error message is displayed.
This is a reported issue in version 2.10 of PB-DIAG-Suite. To prevent this issue, please open the corresponding network status and press the corresponding display control “Clear Network Status”.
This bug is fixed in the version 2.11.
I am testing a network which runs a bitrate of 9,6kbit/s. When I am running the oscilloscope function sometimes error messages are displayed.
This is a reported issue in version 2.10 of PB-DIAG-Suite. The correction is scheduled for the next version.
When I am running the oscilloscope function, PB-DIAG-Suite displays in status bar strange processing lag values and/or bus status shows “red”, although the network is okay. Why this is the case?
Running simultaneously telegram recorder and oscilloscope function is principally possible. In version 2.10 of PB-DIAG-Suite this configuration will cause the above mentioned reported issue.
To prevent this issue, please decide in favour of one function and stop the other function (oscilloscope or telegram recording). The correction is scheduled for the next version.
I have simultaneously connected BC-4x0-PB and BC-600-PB to PB-DIAG-Suite via USB. What do I have to bear in mind?
In principle the operation is the same as compared to operation on a single device. In version 2.10 of PB-DIAG-Suite opening a channel via selection of the corresponding device in project explorer may cause an error message. To prevent this reported issue, please select the corresponding device on the start page. The correction is scheduled for the next version.
When starting a trend recording using PB-DIAG-Suite, the displayed logging period is not “Zero”. Why this is the case?
BC-600-PB contains an internal clock, which starts to run from “Zero” whenever a recording is started (frame recording, protocol analysis or trend recording). Typically a trend recording shall start at “Zero”. To prevent this reported issue we recommend to stop all other running functions such as the frame recorder. After that you can start trend recording.
When opening a frame recording (rpb-file) my mouse pointer continues to show an hour glass. Why this is the case?
Typically opening a telegram recording (rpb-file) in offline mode takes a couple of seconds. During this data input of information, the cursor changes its appearance (hour glass). Is the measurement device being plugged to a master device (test location) during the frame recording, the mouse pointer remains an hour glass and the processing lag value being displayed in status bar is growing continuously. This reported issue does not affect any available functions (such as search frames function) and will be fixed in the next update version.
Measurement can be performed in stand alone mode and all devices are detected properly.
However, the BC-700-PB is not detected if you try to do a measurement with the PROFIBUS Diagnose Suite software. In this case no measurement can be performed or the baud rate setting is "forgotten". Such a phenomenon has been observed with USB cable with a length of 2 meter or longer.
Please use a USB cable with a maximum length of 2 meters or shorter.
If you only see question marks rather than a meter value in the generated report then you should change to the Topology tab with connected BC-700-PB (very important) and assigned Network. Then click here the button “Copy to Global”.
Please configure the Trigger Condition in the Diagnostics Suite. The External (Trigger In) should be used as source for the trigger in the Oscilloscope View.
You need an external device (e.g. voltage measurement equipment) which triggers the PBT5 in case of e.g. voltage decrease. The reason is to find out whether the voltage decrease influences the PROFIBUS installation.
Please note, the external trigger input can only start the oscilloscope measurement but not the frame recording.
The external trigger output works exactly like the trigger in the Oscilloscope View, but with a small delay caused by the hardware driver.
So when the Oscilloscope View is active, trigger signals corresponding to the current oscilloscope trigger mode (address or voltage level) are generated at the trigger output pin.
In turn, the external trigger input may be used as source for the trigger in the Oscilloscope View.
Bus participants incl. bus addresses will be displayed during the signal quality measurement, but not the signal bars. Instead of that only the text “Timeout” appears.
If a quality index could not be determined within the specified time, the text "Time-Out" appears. You should check the station in this case or increase the "Measurement time-out" setting in the Signal Analysis Settings dialog box (menu Test -> Signal analysis setting).
At the bottom of the “Evaluation” tab, you can set a timeout for the signal analysis measurements. If a station does not exist or if a measurement cannot be properly completed for other reasons, the measurement is aborted for that station after the specified time and the next measurement is started. Because a signal analysis measurement always has to capture multiple frames of a station, you may need to increase the timeout setting when testing networks with many stations or low baud rates.
Maybe a configuration file is faulty, therefore the PROFIBUS Diagnostics Suite software can no longer be loaded.
Please navigate to the folder C:\ProgramData\Softing\PROFIBUS\Diag Suite\config
Check the files in that folder. If you find a file with a length of 0KB, delete it. If the file lengths are plausible, delete the file RecentData.cfg.
The missing configuration files will be created during the startup of the software.
After deleting the files the software should work properly again.
You can choose between two different user modes for the workspace:
- Advanced mode and
- Standard mode.
When you enable Standard mode, the expert functions for analyzing oscillograms and frames are not available. This mode gives new or less experienced users a clear, easy-to-use user interface with the standard display and control functions.
To change the user mode, open Settings from the menu bar and select User Mode.
Then the oscillogram and frame functions will be visible.

By default, only the exception logging is activated, which can be found in the program data directory at:
In most cases, this information is sufficient to investigate.
However, in some cases, extended log files (application log files) are required.
To enable application logging, you should also perform the following steps:
1. Open PDS
2. Press CTRL+SHIFT+T to open Tracer settings window
3. Select module “Main”
4. Check field “Enabled”
5. Change level to “DEBUG”
6. Rotation type can be kept in default “by date” and “Daily”
7. Click “Ok”
