Overview

Connect Laptop to ControlNet Network

  • Use RSLinx version 2.51 or later
  • Use RSNetWorx for ControlNet to communicate with devices via RSLinx
  • USB 2.0 connector for connection to laptop or PC RJ-45 connector for connection to NAP (network access port) of a ControlNet network enabled device

Configuration on the Move

  • Use usbLink CN when you travel to sites with ControlNet as a quick and easy way to temporarily connect and configure networks and devices with a laptop
  • Use RSLinx to scan/browse a ControlNet network
  • Use RSNetWorx for configuring devices, configuring the network, read diagnostics and status, and troubleshooting
  • Use RSStudio (RSLogix) for PLC programming

Easy Setup

  • Load RSLinx software and the usbLink CN device driver if using RSLinx versions before v2.54. RSLinx v2.54 and later contains the necessary device driver
  • Use the rotary switches to set the module node address (1 - 99)
  • Insert USB end of the cable to laptop
  • Insert RJ-45 end of cable into a ControlNet enabled access port (NAP)
  • LEDs indicate USB status, module status, and ControlNet network status

Flashing green = network traffic is present 
Off = unable to transfer data

Flashing green = normal, operating, online, with no connection
Red = cable has an unrecoverable fault and might need to be replaced
Flashing red/green = the cable is performing a self test
Flashing red = the cable has an unrecoverable fault
CNET LED Off = not on a network
Red = network interface fault
Flashing red/green = invalid network configuration (for example, a MAC ID above UMAX)
Flashing red = duplicate node detected, link fault, no MAC frames received
Flashing green = temporary channel error, listen only
Green = normal operation. MAC frame received without error.
