Overview

This two-day training is targeted to manufacturers interested in developing their own OPC products. It offers them the opportunity to familiarize themselves efficiently and successfully with OPC technology. The training draws on ten years of experience in the development of OPC products. The basics of OPC technology and the OPC specifications are explained in a practice-oriented manner.

The main focus is on the Data Access specification for DCOM and XML. Other specifications, security settings, performance assessments and sample applications are also presented in detail.

A large part of the course will be dedicated to hands-on experience. The first day of the training (introductory training) will focus on explaining the specifications. The second day (advanced training) will be devoted to the development of a simple OPC server and the creation of Excel OPC clients.

• Introductory overview of OPC (history, concept, significance)
• Presentation of the base technologies (DCOM, XML and Web services, .NET, etc.)
• Comparison between OPC and existing solutions (proprietary drivers, DDE servers)
• Introduction to current specifications (OPC Data Access 2.0x, 3.0, OPC XML Data Access 1.0, OPC Data eXchange, etc.)
• Performance assessment and sample applications
• Implementation of an OPC server
• Creation of Excel clients using Visual Basic for Application
• Discussion of security settings
• Many hands-on exercises

Requirements

Participants should be familiar with the basic of programming to be able
to follow the general processes of the server and client applications that are presented.
