S7/S5 OPC Server

Easy Data Access Combined With High Performance

One S7/S5 OPC Server is all you need to quickly and conveniently access process and diagnostic data in up to 256 Siemens S5, S7 200 / 300 / 400 and WinAC controllers as well as Siemens compatible controllers.

  • Fast and easy data access to up to 256 controllers using intelligent auto configuration options for time-saving setup and commissioning
  • Flexible use – one OPC server for all controllers and CPs, for Ethernet, PROFIBUS and serial communication
  • Best-in-Class performance and reliability – designed for 24/7 operation

Easy communication with Siemens controllers

You can use any OPC compliant client application to read and write all input and output data, data blocks, markers, timers, and counters in the controllers. Up to 256 controllers can be accessed simultaneously. The variables are consistently addressed using STEP7 or STEP5 syntax. No changes to the control program are required for communication with the S7/S5 OPC Server.

Flexible, high-performance solution

Access to the controller is available via Ethernet, PROFIBUS, USB or serial communication. CPs from various manufacturers as well as Softing gateways and Softing NETLink adapters are supported for Ethernet communication. The S7/S5 OPC Server employs a unique and proprietary algorithm to optimize the data throughput between the OPC Server and the SIEMENS controllers by automatically re-combining PLC Read and Write Requests for optimal performance. This feature alone renders Softing’s OPC Server the best-in-class product.

Configuration from STEP7 or Excel, diagnostics via web browser

The OPC namespace is extremely quick to configure by importing symbolic names from STEP7 projects or Excel-files. Existing configurations can be exported from software applications like visualization or process control systems to Excel, and are then conveniently uploaded to the S7/S5 OPC Server. The OPC server provides a web server for diagnostics and process data visualization. Simply use a standard web browser to display PLC states and process data. For secure, high-performance remote access without DCOM, the S7/S5 OPC Server includes Softing ’s OPC Tunnel. This eliminates the need to configure DCOM settings and saves you considerable cost and time.

Comprehensive Overview of Specifications and applications

The OPC Book provides an introduction to all OPC Specifications released by the OPC Foundation, from the very first to the most recent. OPC stands for Openness, Productivity and Collaboration, symbolizing the new possibilities opening up in automation technology. In addition to the fundamentals of OPC, the book discusses the implementation of OPC servers and clients, and presents application possibilities and examples. This gives readers a comprehensive overview of OPC technology and application areas.

The New OPC Generation – OPC Unified Architecture

A key focus of the book is on the OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA). The new OPC generation allows service oriented, multivendor, and cross-platform capable data and information exchange. Among the most important subjects here are the specifications of this Windows-independent technology, the OPC UA application possibilities, the development of OPC UA products for Windows, Linux and VxWorks operating systems, and the migration from OPC Classic to OPC UA. The book provides a solid foundation of knowledge for readers to build and use products supporting OPC UA in automation.

Tools and Demo Programs on CD-ROM

The included CD-ROM contains demo versions of a variety of OPC servers and OPC tools. It also provides several demonstration programs for development, commissioning, testing, and for the simulation of OPC clients and servers. Another major part of the CD-ROM is dedicated to OPC UA introductory videos and presentations. The comprehensive content makes it easy for readers to get started with OPC Classic and OPC UA.
