    PROFINET

    PROFINET is the open, manufacturer-independent Industrial Ethernet Standard for factory and process automation.
    Several work groups of PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI) have been working on the development of PROFINET since 2000. PI has over 1,400 member companies, which increasingly offer PROFINET products. By the end of 2009, 2.1 million nodes were installed all over the world. PROFINET is used in a wide variety of factory and process automation applications.
