The HART protocol provides digital communication in parallel to the analog 4-20 mA signal and thus allows the easy parameterization of analog devices. In addition, communication via HART offers the possibility of asset management for the connected devices.

The HART standard was developed by the HART Communication Foundation and is currently available in version 7.3. HART is supported by all leading manufacturers of control systems and devices.
